In this educational initiative, experts in worsening heart failure (WHF) will provide attendees with the current definition for WHF; describe its association with poor clinical outcomes; and emphasize the need for prevention of WHF, early diagnosis, and urgent escalation of treatment. Effective treatment strategies will be described, including the evidence for and utilization of additional medical therapies for worsening HFrEF on top of quadruple therapy.
The goals for this program are for attendees to:
- Treat patients with worsening heart failure (WHF), escalating therapy urgently, regardless of the location of care
- Escalate treatment for WHF earlier to improve clinical outcome
- Utilize strategies outlined in expert-generated consensus statements for optimizing guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) in patients with worsening heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF)
- Identify patients with worsening HFrEF to be considered for additional medical therapies, on top of foundational GDMT, and indicate prudent strategies for their initiation and titration
- Implement team-based approaches to prevent and effectively manage worsening HFrEF
