Are you a part of the heart failure community and have a passion for podcasting? HFSA is currently seeking new editorial team members for its clinician podcast the Heart Failure Beat. Volunteering on the team allows you to develop professionally and build connections as you conceptualize episodes, engage in dialogue with leaders in the field, and investigate new research and scientific breakthroughs. Review qualifications and requirements below! One to three new team members will be selected from qualified applicants.
Editorial Team Member Qualifications
The Heart Failure Beat was developed by HFSA as a platform to have candid conversations about the topics that heart failure professionals face on a daily basis, while exploring breakthroughs in heart failure research and treatment. Editorial team members are volunteers who work to create quality episodes that represent all members of the heart failure care team, at all stages of their careers. Episodes reach a public audience across HFSA membership and listeners on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and more. In 2023, the Heart Failure Beat received over 18,000 downloads and episodes are downloaded every day.
Editorial team members must have an interest in podcasting, a clinical or research background in heart failure (ex. physicians, APP, PhD, nurses, pharmacists), and meet the following criteria:
- Engaged in the field and up-to-date on current trends, topics, news
- Energetic and enthusiastic to participate in conversations around fresh concepts, groundbreaking research, new scientific guidelines, intriguing published articles, etc.
- Skilled at reading news, research, and publications and finding the most interesting highlights
- Able to review episodes and provide thoughtful and discerning edits and revisions
- Able to commit the time to serve as a lead editor on 2-3 episodes per year (approximate 3 hour commitment per episode)
- Excited to explore topics and help develop interview scripts
- Prepared to act as an ambassador of HFSA, acting accordingly with and in support of its mission and goals, including its policy on DEI
- Exhibit fairness, an open mind and good judgement when engaging in potentially controversial topic areas
- Represent “good citizenship” and generally refrain from using derogatory or defamatory language or expressing viewpoints in direct conflict with the HFSA mission

Requirements and Commitment
- One (1) year, volunteer position as team member, spanning January-December 2024. Potential to extend position for additional year following team vote at end of term.
- Monthly calls with the podcast editorial team
- Serve as a lead editor on 2-3 episodes per year, which requires approximately 3 hours per work per episode, including duties such as:
- Assist hosts with question and script development
- Review raw interview recording to provide editorial cuts to HFSA staff liaison
- Review episode draft for quality, accuracy, and highlight or chapter time stamps
- Write episode titles, descriptions, and chapter titles
- Help to promote episodes by sharing them on social media, emails, etc.
- Communicate actively with editorial team, HFSA staff liaison, guests, potential guests, etc. via email and text message
- Open to participating in livestreamed podcast recordings and recordings onsite at the HFSA Annual Scientific Meeting
- Active membership in HFSA in good standing through the duration of host duties
