Question 6: What can healthcare providers do to best care for their patients living with heart failure?
Heart Failure Society of America @HFSA
- #Heartfailure can be a scary diagnosis for patients, and healthcare providers can try to reassure patients that there are treatment options that can improve their symptoms and in some cases can cause the disease to go into complete remission. #HFChat2023
- Providers can emphasize lifestyle changes like proper diet & exercise to improve quality of life. Patients should be seen frequently at regular intervals in clinic by the healthcare team to optimize meds and assess patients for improvement. #HFChat2023
- Finally for those patients who do not respond to therapy, referral to specialized heart failure centers should be considered. #HFChat2023
The Heart Brothers Foundation @HeartBrothers1
- Healthcare providers should introduce their #heartfailure patients to peer support groups and–specifically–#hfpatient support groups (like the #HeartBrothers!) for much-needed and often overlooked emotional support. #HFWeek2023 #HFChat2023
- Providers need to understand that #heartfailure is a big deal and they need to have an honest discussion with their patients. They also need to find resources and support networks like #MendedHearts that they can connect patients with. #HFChat2023
- We have more information on that in our MH #heartguide. Check it out: https://mendedhearts.org/mendedhearts/Docs/HeartGuide/HeartGuide.html

- Provide patients with peer support resources like those available at WomenHeart. Connecting with others who have a similar diagnosis can be empowering for patients. https://womenheart.org/find-support/ #HFWeek2023 #HFChat2023
