Recap: Heart Success: Function Not Failure. What is the importance of focusing on heart function and not failure?

HFChat2022_Question1

Question 1: Our #HFWeek2023 theme is Heart Success: Function Not Failure. What is the importance of focusing on heart function and not failure?

Heart Failure Society of America @HFSA

  • The term ‘heart failure’ might imply that the heart is no longer working and that the heart can no longer have any degree of recovery. This is not necessarily true.

  • The ‘Heart Success: Function Not Failure’ campaign aims to empower patients living with HF and their caregivers or loved ones to learn about:

    ✅ Self-advocacy
    ✅ Shared decision-making
    ✅ Making healthy choices
✅ Optimizing visits w/their care team

  • There are many therapies, incl. medications and medical devices, which can be used to help support the heart and potentially improve its function. To learn more about these potential therapies, visit the HFSA patient hub. https://hfsa.org/patient-hub/learn-about-heart-failure

The Heart Brothers Foundation @HeartBrothers1

  • Focusing on improved #heartfunction, rather than #heartfailure, reminds patients that many factors can contribute to a better quality of life & are within their control—there is hope! #HFWeek2023 #HFChat2023
  • Follow your prescribed diet, exercise regimen, and therapies to #reducesymptoms and improve your quality of life. #HFWeek2023 #HFChat2023

Mended Hearts @MendedHearts

  • It really is a health literacy issue because most people don’t understand what heart failure means, they may think that their heart may just stop. #HFChat2023 #HFWeek2023

Women Heart @WomenHeartOrg

  • For patients, hearing they have heart “failure” can be unnecessarily defeatist. Learning how to thrive and improve their heart “function” is more empowering. #HFWeek2023
