Scientific Session Coming Soon Genetics

Despite guideline recommendations, genetic testing for cardiomyopathy remains underutilized in heart failure clinics due to workflow, knowledge, and referral barriers. This practical session focuses on how to operationalize genetic testing in routine care. Faculty will present an implementation framework, early health-system experience building a care pathway, and pragmatic tools including EHR-based identification and referral, patient education videos, and scalable pre-test counseling strategies. The session concludes with a step-by-step approach to integrating genetic testing into a busy HF clinic without requiring on-site genetics expertise.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe common implementation barriers to cardiomyopathy genetic testing and the structure of a health-system implementation framework.
  • Use practical workflow solutions—including EHR tools, referral pathways, and patient education resources—to increase testing and counseling uptake.
  • Develop a feasible clinic-level strategy to incorporate genetic testing and cascade screening into routine heart failure care.
