Mustafa M. Ahmed is Professor of Medicine and Section Chief of Heart Failure at the University of Florida. He also serves as the Medical Director of the Mechanical Circulatory Support Program, and is the Director of the UF Center for Regenerative Medicine. Dr. Ahmed cares for patients across the spectrum of heart failure, with a focus on advanced heart failure, left ventricular assist devices and transplantation. He attended Johns Hopkins University for his undergraduate studies and obtained his medical degree from his native state at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. He completed his medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University, followed by cardiology fellowship and subsequently advanced heart failure and transplant fellowships at the University of Florida while serving as the Cardiovascular Cell Therapy Research Network (CCTRN) training scholar. His current research interests include cell and gene therapy, ideal strategies for pacemakers and defibrillators in LVAD recipients, as well as interventions to reduce bleeding and other LVAD related complications. Along with Dr. Melvin Echols, he serves as the Co-Chair for the HFSA REIMAGINE initiative.
