In Memoriam of Mihai Gheorghiade, MD

With much sadness, we are writing to inform you about the passing of Mihai Gheorghiade, MD. You very likely know of his many contributions to the field of heart failure. Dr. Gheorghiade was a former chair of the HFSA Corporate Affairs committee and a frequent faculty member at the HFSA Annual Scientific Meeting, among many other contributions to the society.

A statement put out by Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine stated,

“Mihai was well known by all of us and a friend to many of us. His contributions to the field of heart failure, especially internationally, are near legendary and place him in an iconic status. He has consistently been among the most highly cited investigators in the country, he has mentored countless students and residents and has initiated and completed innumerable clinical trials. His impact on the field will remain for many years to come.”

General cardiology, Heart failure, Ischemic heart disease, Prevention of heart disease

Education and Certification:
MD: Medical School of Rome (1972)
Internship: Miriam Hospital/Brown University Medical School, Internal Medicine (1973)
Residency: Miriam Hospital/Brown University Medical School (1975)
Fellowship: Miriam Hospital/Brown University Medical School (1979)
Board Certification: Cardiovascular Disease, Internal Medicine
