Her clinical expertise is in the diagnosis and management of patients with heart failure, ranging from ambulatory heart failure to advanced heart failure management including heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support, and the diagnosis and management of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). She leads one of the largest dedicated HFpEF clinical and research programs in the country and her primary research area of interest is in HFpEF. From a clinical research standpoint, Dr. Sharma has led numerous clinical trials ranging from single center studies, to serving as US National Leader and steering committee member of international clinical trials including PARAGLIDE-HF, PRESERVED-HF, FINEARTS, and the STEP-HFpEF trials. From a translational research standpoint, Dr. Sharma has developed the largest human HFpEF myocardial tissue bank in the US and leads and collaborates with a team of investigators in first in human studies of HFpEF tissue histopathology, transcriptomics, sarcomere function, and metabolomics. Dr. Sharma receives funding from an AHA SFRN Go Red for Women Network Award and Soter Collaborative, sponsored research grant from Amgen and recently was awarded an FNIH AMP HF/HeartShare grant for deep phenotyping in HFpEF.
