COVID-19 continues to be an emerging, rapidly evolving situation. The Heart Failure Society of America wants to protect our patients, our members, and the public. Health care workers, the elderly over 80 years of age, immunocompromised individuals, and those with chronic illnesses, including heart failure patients, are at increased risk.
Experts recommend preventative measures to reduce the risk of illness and the spread of COVID-19, including:
- Cough etiquette,
- Avoid contact with those that are ill,
- Maintain a safe social distance of 3 – 6 feet,
- Frequent hand washing with a duration of at least 20 seconds, and
- Avoid touching your face
- Rest, nutrition, and exercise will also keep your immune system healthy
- Avoid any situation with a large gathering of people when possible
The CDC recommends for patients at higher risk of getting very sick from COVID-19 (which includes patients with chronic heart conditions) that “(d)uring a COVID-19 outbreak in your community, (individuals should) stay home as much as possible to further reduce your risk of being exposed.”
If you have signs and symptoms of illness including fever, malaise and cough, please see a health care provider immediately.
