To Members of the Heart Failure Society of America:
HFSA Needs You!
The Heart Failure Society of America has been blessed by excellent leadership ever since its founding over 25 years ago. As we continue into our next quarter century, we need new leaders to step up and help our association continue to grow, continue to provide high quality benefits to our members, and continue to be the leading voice on heart failure in the United States and across the world.
Volunteering at HFSA helps your career development, is a great way to network with other heart failure leaders and allows you to positively impact the heart failure field, as well as to develop life-long friendships with amazing people.
Volunteering at HFSA has been one of the highlights of my career and my life and I would urge you to do the same. I can say that it is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. I have had the pleasure of serving on multiple committees, on the Board of Directors and as an officer before becoming President of HFSA.
Early in my journey with HFSA, I served on the Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) Program Committee. It was tremendously exciting to build the program and to survey the field of heart failure, considering not only its current status, but also its future trajectory. Yet, the greatest satisfaction emerged as I experienced the enthusiasm of my colleagues giving brilliant lectures, attending the sessions and adding their insights to our common goal of improving care of patients with heart failure.
Volunteer opportunities include serving on a committee or task force, becoming a member of the Board of Directors, participating in panels with the government and corporate community, and a wide range of speaking opportunities.
Some examples of the current work being performed by HFSA’s committees include:
- ASM Program Committee – Putting together a great program for our meeting in Cleveland in October
- Data in Heart Failure Committee – Finalizing the initial publication on the impact of heart failure in the United States
- Membership Committee – Helping to implement the new complimentary membership program for our trainees
- Nursing Committee – Hosting a nursing networking session this month
- Research Committee – Coordinating numerous projects as part of the Heart Failure Research Network
- Scientific Statements Committee – Working on a record number of scientific statements for publication in JCF
None of this work can be done without HFSA members stepping up to volunteer to serve. We owe it to our patients and to the profession that we have chosen and that we love.
The deadline for volunteering is March 24. Go here to apply. All applications are reviewed by the Leadership Recruitment Committee, with the HFSA Board of Directors making the final decision on appointments.
I am always in awe of the number of our colleagues who commit their time on behalf of their profession and their association. Please volunteer today… it will be one of the best things you ever do!
