Patient News Heart Failure Awareness 365

This month, in addition to our other heart failure resources, we'll be highlighting Devices and Technology on the Horizon. Take a sneak peek at what's to come!

Heart Failure Beat Healthy Living Podcast Episode Spotlights
The Heart Failure Beat Healthy Living Podcast highlights the key things patients and caregivers need to know about living with heart failure. If you're interested in knowing what options and resources are available now and, on the horizon, to ensure you're making informed decisions, tune into What's New in HF Care? to hear from members of the Journal of Cardiac Failure, HFSA's scientific journal. Mobile Technology and Wearables for Heart Failure Patient Management also gives a great overview of the vast array of technologies on the market for patients living with heart failure.

Innovations Countdown: Decision Aids in Heart Failure: Medications, ICD, and LVAD
With advances in medical technology, people with chronic disease are increasingly offered major surgeries and devices. Two examples of this are the left ventricular assist device (LVAD) and the implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). Learn the difference between the two, and view this formal decision aid from Colorado Program for Patient Centered Decisions (CPPCD).

Additional Resources
A number of other organizations offer support and educational resources to heart failure patients and their families. If you're interested in getting a wearable health device to keep track of your numbers in the new year, view Guidance for Wearable Health Solutions, produced in partnership with the Heart Rhythm Society and Consumer Technology Association. Implantable devices are also an option for those with an abnormal heart rhythm or if the electric impulses don't travel through the heart properly. Heart Failure Matters offers a full list of heart devices currently available, as well as an in-depth overview of each.
