Guidance for Applicants – ERAS/NRMP Match for AHFTC Fellowship

The Heart Failure Society of America will sponsor the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS®) and the National Resident Matching Program’s (NRMP) Medical Specialties Matching Program (MSMP) for the 2020 academic year.

Most ACGME-accredited Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology (AHFTC) programs have committed to participating in both the ERAS and NRMP for 2020. Interested applicants can find guidance below and read for more information on applying to AHFTC residencies through ERAS.

Applying to AHFTC Programs via ERAS or a NRMP MATCH

The cost to participate in a NRMP match is $85 for up to 100 programs. Participation for the NRMP Match requires a payment of a nominal fee at the time of registration. To apply to AHFTC Programs via ERAS, visit ERAS for Fellowship Applicants for fees and to apply.

*NOTE: ERAS application fees are separate and additional.

Benefits of a Match
  • Allows applicants and programs to consider all options before making a decision
  • Creates an impartial venue for matching programs' and applicants' preferences
  • Provides applicants with the opportunity to cross-apply to multiple specialties participating in the Medical Specialties Matching Program
  • Allows for applicants to participate in the Match as a couple
  • Establishes a uniform date for appointments to fellowship training programs
  • Legitimizes recruitment by mainstreaming our subspecialty's fellowship selection process
  • Provides a uniform time for both applicants and programs to make their selections without pressure
  • Levels the playing field among programs
  • Allows programs to interview more applicants
All-In Policy

All AHFTC programs participating in the Match will use an “All-In Policy.” That means that all participating programs are committed to offering all funded, ACGME accredited positions through the Match and offering no positions outside of the Match. The only exception is for military appointees to civilian programs based on pre-existing arrangements between civilian fellowship programs and military branch GME offices.

Additional Information and Web Resources
