Changes and Updates to Amgen Repatha Patient Start Program

Practice News

New patient enrollment for the Repatha® (evolocumab) Patient Start Program will end March 31, 2016.

The Repatha® Patient Start Program was created with the recognition that payers would not be familiar with Repatha® or with evaluating patient claims for coverage when Repatha® was first launched.  The Repatha® Patient Start Program was put into place to ensure patients would have access to Repatha® while coverage denials were appealed.  Payers now have experience processing patient claims for Repatha®, and most have made formulary decisions and created utilization management criteria specific to Repatha®.

Patients covered by commercial insurance, who are enrolled in the program before March 31, 2016 and whose coverage appeals are still pending will continue to have access to free medicine until August 31, 2016.

Patients covered by government insurance who enrolled in the program before March 31, 2016 will continue to have access to free medicine throughout their plan year.

Navigating the insurance verification process has been challenging, so Amgen will continue to provide services to help support access for patients on their journey to Repatha® treatment. RepathaReady™ offers a comprehensive suite of services for patients and providers, including:

  • Simplified insurance support
  • The Repatha® Copay Card, which reduces out of pocket costs for eligible commercially insured patients – no income eligibility required*
  • Free Repatha® for eligible uninsured and underinsured patients through The Safety Net Foundation
  • Alternative financial assistance and insurance research for patients who do not qualify for the Repatha® Copay Card, including referrals to copay foundations
  • Injection training and support from RepathaReady
  • Free needle disposal containers mailed to your patient’s door
  • Helpful emails to help your patients start and stay on Repatha®
