Barry A Borlaug, MD, is Professor of Medicine, William J. and Sharon A. Schoen Professor of Cardiology, and Chair of Research in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA.
Dr Borlaug graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in 1999. Following an internship/residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School (2002), he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and School of Medicine (2006).
Dr Borlaug’s research interests include the mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of heart failure and pulmonary hypertension, with a focus on heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
Dr Borlaug’s group is currently pursuing multiple clinical studies examining the pathophysiologic abnormalities that cause functional limitation and symptoms of heart failure, studies to improve diagnostics, and clinical trials seeking to identify novel strategies, devices and treatments for patients with heart failure.
Dr Borlaug is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He serves on the editorial boards and/or is guest editor at Circulation, JACC, European Heart Journal, JACC Heart Failure, and Circulation Heart Failure, and has published over 550 articles.
