Adrian daSilva-deAbreu, M.D., M.Sc., Ph.D.(c) earned his medical degree from the Central University of Venezuela, where he received the Luis Razetti Graduation Award (AOA equivalent). He then completed his residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Ochsner Clinic Foundation, and his advanced fellowship of Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology at Yale New Haven Hospital. During this training, he earned the Alpha Omega Alpha award and The Arnold P. Gold Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award and served as Senior Lecturer of Medicine at The U.Q. Ochsner Clinical (Medical) School. He also completed his master’s degree in Clinical Research and his PhD research in tandem with clinical training.
Dr. da Silva is an Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, Assistant Professor at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, and serves on the Editorial Boards of JACC Spanish Edition, JACC Heart Failure, International Journal of Cardiology, and Current Problems in Cardiology.
His clinical interests focus on heart failure, heart transplantation, LVADs, and cardio-obesity. His research over the past several years has focused on the interactions between obesity and heart failure, especially in patients with LVADs. Dr. da Silva is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. He has authored over 50 publications and 15 book chapters, and is the recipient of the Eduardo G. Mestre and Gillian M. Shepherd, M.D., Clinician Career Development Award Honoring John T. Shepherd, M.D.
