In an effort to bring you the most pressing and timely scientific updates that were set to be announced at the HFSA Annual Scientific Meeting this weekend, Late Breaking Clinical Research sessions will be livestreamed on Sunday, September 29 and Monday, September 30 at 9:00 AM ET and available as recorded presentations following the sessions.
While the HFSA staff and ASM Program Committee are exploring options to present other content from the educational program in alternative formats at a later date, HFSA is dedicated to the presentation of clinical science likely to have a significant impact on practice and has created these virtual sessions for the late breaking science currently under embargo. These sessions contain many exciting updates and announcements and will be presented to attendees at their previously scheduled times in a virtual manner.
“The Program Committee received so much incredible and cutting-edge late breaking research this year, and we know that our registrants are eager to hear these trial results and research updates. We want to bring you those results without further delay,” said Mitchell Psotka, MD, PhD (Chief of Heart Failure and Transplant, Inova Health System), 2024 ASM Program Committee Chair. “We want to honor our commitment to the investigators and give them a platform through which they can share their research. This new format will present a different experience; but the most important thing is the science, and we’re excited to share that with you as scheduled.”
Details and Access
If you are registered for ASM, you do not need to take any further action at this time. Details on accessing the recording will be emailed to all previously registered ASM attendees and made available on the ASM website as soon as they are available.
Abstract Embargo Policy and Access to General Abstracts
The ASM abstract embargo policy will remain in effect, with late breaking abstract embargoes lifted the day of the presentations, Sunday, September 29 and Monday, September 30, respectively. The embargo for general abstracts lifts on Friday, September 27 at 6:00 PM ET, with these abstracts available to be viewed by registered attendees in the HFSA ASM 2024 mobile app.
HFSA staff will provide updates regarding any further decisions regarding virtual options for the remaining sessions in the scientific program. Please monitor your inbox, follow HFSA on X, and watch here for updates.

In case you missed it, the HFSA Annual Scientific Meeting and the HFSA Devices in Heart Failure Meeting has been canceled and is not taking place September 27-30 in Atlanta, Georgia.
At this time, we encourage you to do the following:
- Contact your hotel directly to make necessary cancellations
- Contact your airlines to make necessary flight arrangements
- Monitor your emails for updates and announcements from HFSA ([email protected])
We are discussing potential virtual options to deliver the incredible educational program that has been developed for this year's meeting to attendees at a later date, but for the time being, we are focused on ensuring the safety of our registrants, staff, faculty, and exhibitors. We will follow up with any additional information on alternative offerings.
September 25 | 9:00 PM
This evening, the HFSA Board of Directors held an emergency meeting to discuss Hurricane Helene’s impact on the Atlanta region. After much discussion, the Board made the difficult decision to cancel the HFSA Annual Scientific Meeting and the HFSA Devices in Heart Failure Meeting in light of the declaration of a State of Emergency by the Georgia governor. The safety of our attendees, staff, exhibitors – as well as the employees who staff the hotel and Georgia World Congress Center – is our top priority, and we believe this is the most responsible course of action.
We kindly ask for your patience as we navigate this unexpected situation. We understand the inconvenience this will cause and will keep you updated on our progress as soon as we have more concrete information to share about the consequences of our decision.
Thank you for supporting the HFSA, your society.
James C. Fang, MD, FHFSA, and the HFSA Board of Directors

Atlanta is currently under a Tropical Storm and Flood Watch due to Hurricane Helene. While the Annual Scientific Meeting is expected to proceed as planned, we want to make you aware of some updates and ensure you that we are closely monitoring the situation.
The National Weather Service in Atlanta is providing live updates to the impact of Hurricane Helene in the Atlanta area. As of this morning (September 25), they indicated that storm-related impacts to the area will peak between Thursday afternoon and Friday afternoon. We are hopeful that the severe weather will dissipate Friday evening, allowing the rest of the meeting to continue as planned. As a reminder, the meeting kicks off at 5:00 PM on Friday evening.
You may experience interrupted travel. We encourage you to follow the National Weather Service in Atlanta (thread on X with valuable updates) for updates and work with your airlines to make adjustments to your flights, if necessary. Please also monitor your inbox for updates from HFSA as we continue to monitor and assess the situation.
