Biykem Bozkurt, MD, PhD, FHFSA, FACC, FAHA, FESC is the W.A. “Tex” and Deborah Moncrief, Jr., Chair; Mary and Gordon Cain Chair and Professor of Medicine; Director of the Winters Center for Heart Failure; Associate Director of Cardiovascular Research Institute; Vice-Chair of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine; and Medical Care Line Executive at the DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston TX. Dr. Bozkurt is an advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation cardiologist with active participation in clinical practice, research and education.

Dr. Bozkurt has been a member of the HFSA for more than 15 years, has served in many committees; and has participated in the strategic planning, advocacy, membership, scientific, research and educational activities of the HFSA. Dr. Bozkurt serves as a senior Associate Editor of Circulation; one of the Heart Failure Section Editors for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology; and has served as an Associate Editor for Circulation: Heart Failure. She currently is the Chair of the Heart Failure Council at the American College of Cardiology; Chair of the ACCF/AHA Task Force for Clinical Data Standards; and serves as a member of the ABIM Question Writing Committee for Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation. She was a member of the AHA/ACCF Practice Guidelines for the Management of Heart Failure Writing Committee and the AHA/ACCF Task Force for Practice Guidelines.

Dr. Bozkurt actively participates in clinical and translational research and as a presenter in national and international scientific sessions. She teaches medical students, residents, fellows at bedside; and mentors trainees in clinical and translational research. Dr. Bozkurt received her MD degree from University of Istanbul; she completed her residency and cardiology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, heart failure and cardiac transplant training at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She received her PhD as part of a NIH K30 program in clinical translational science, and has had successful NIH, VA and industry funding for clinical and translational research. Dr. Bozkurt was the recipient of the National Veterans Affairs Secretary’s Hands and Heart Award for Recognition of Highest Standards in Patient Care in 2003, American College of Cardiology Proctor Harvey MD Young Teacher Award in 2005, Barbara and Corbin J. Robertson, Jr. Presidential Award for Excellence in Education at Baylor College of Medicine in 2014, Master Clinician Lifetime Award at Baylor College of Medicine in 2014, and American College of Cardiology Gifted Educator Award in 2016.
